Welcome to the City Thousand Oaks which includes within the City the Neighborhoods of Newbury Park, Westlake Village Village. Which is a premier destination city northwest of Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks rests in a mountainous plateau 900´ above sea level as seen coming up the Conejo grade from Camarillo. The area enjoys a westerly flow of air off the ocean, keeping it cool and the air fresh. Additionally, Thousand Oaks offers a thriving business environment with attractive shopping and services as well as pleasant year-round temperatures averaging 65 to 75 degrees during the summer and 53 to 69 degrees during the winter.
Citizens are committed to preserving the city's idyllic setting that retains a rural-like quality of life. It is nestled in the hilly area called the Conejo Valley, which in Spanish means Rabbit Valley. The valley borders approximately 500,000 acres of State Park to the south. The hills bordering the city of Moorpark, Wood Ranch, Simi Valley, San Fernando Valley Etc. The valley has designated approximately 14,000 square acres or one third of the City as designated open space which is managed by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency to insure quality of life for years to come. The city also has numerous parks with over 75 miles of trails within the city. Thousand Oaks is also proud to run the Thousand Oaks City Library which is one of the largest per capita for a city of its size. The Library has also won architectural awards. |

Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is a world class place to catch a musical or concert. It is the largest theater between Thousand Oaks and San Francisco with 400 performances a year and 300,000 visitors. Thousand Oaks ranks number one in the United State for the lowest crime with a city over 100,000 and it always ranks in the top 3 position by the FBI reports. The city has 122,000 people and is about 97% built out ensuring that it will not change much in years to come and that real estate in Thousand Oaks will continue to be the premiere destination. Amgen the worlds largest Biotechnology Company has it's World Head Quarters in Thousand Oaks with approximately 40 buildings and 12,900 employees world approximately aproximately 3400 employees in the Conejo Valley. Amgen is the number one company employer in Ventura County and the number two funded company on the New York stock exchange in California only second to Disney. Amgen is known to be one of the best employers in the country and a very involved and generous contributer to the community.

Things to do in Thousand Oaks
Thousand Oaks is a community close to the coast which offers cool weather in the summer and moderate weather in the winter months. The city manages Los Robles Golf Course and within the city is also Sunset Hills County Club. Additionally, there are about seven golf courses within the Conejo |
Valley. You can visit the Stage Coach Museum and Park which is great for kids, or hike one of the many popular trails in the Santa Monica Mountains National Park. Mountain bikers will also enjoy the variety of open space trails. Within a short 15 minute drive, you can enjoy the Pacific Ocean from surfing to swimming. You can go Scuba Diving and Kayaking or take a boat within 10 mile ride to the eight offshore islands within the Channel Islands National park. Thousand Oaks also offers many opportunities for the equestrian, whether that be living in horse zoned property, taking horseback riding lessons at place at Two Winds Ranch or just riding the many horse trails.
A great way to spend the day is to just drive up the Coast and stop on Main Street in Ventura and look at shops there are countless antique shops, boutiques and places to eat. Drive further up the coast and you can enjoy the city of Summerland and Santa Barbara in only a 45 minute drive. These cities are -also known as the number two tourist destinations in Southern California. Santa Barbara is a beautiful shoreline community with pristine waters. It is a great place to enjoy the ocean at its best from renting wave runners to small boats or just taking a walk on the beach collecting shells. You can visit the Sterns Wharf Pier and the many shops on the popular State Street. The Santa Barbara Mission is a must see for kids as is the Natural Museum of History. Botanic lovers should make an appointment to see the famous Lotus Land Botanical Gardens as well... Interested in Surfing try Malibu Beach just 30 Minutes to to the South.
But for those of you who love snow, we have that too! Mt.Pinos, elevation 8300, is within a 2 hour drive. It is a State Park open all winter for sledding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. There is generally snow at Mt. Pianos from Nov to April. If it´s skiing you want, Big Bear Mountain is also a 2 hour drive with several Ski Resorts in that area! Culturally, Thousand Oaks offers a variety of options. Attend one of the many major performances or speakers at the Civic´s Art Plaza, Conejo players , Young artist ensemble, Canyon Club Dinner Club with Popular bands and Artist from the 60's to the 90's for more information on Cultural activities and area museums contact the Conejo Arts Council.
For a suburban town, that we like to think we are a little bit in the country. Thousand Oaks boosts a Regional Shopping Center called the Oaks Mall as well as the popular Janns Mall, the Westlake Promenade and several other shopping outlets on Thousand Oaks Blvd. Within a 15 minute drive are two outlet malls. We have a Regional Auto Mall the Largest on the Southland from Volkswagen to Roll Royce and Lexus. We have a world class Los Robles Regional Medical Center with expertise in Cancer, Cardiology and Child Birth. Centrally located in Thousand Oaks.
Education is a high priority in Thousand Oaks Conejo Valley Unified School District Schools is second to none on Ventura County and the State of California. Several schools are Blue Ribbon (National Top Rating) or a top 100 School (the State of California Rating). There are 20 elementary schools, 5 middle schools and 3 high schools. Thousand Oaks is proud to be the home of California Lutheran University. This is a private school. Cal Lu offers degrees in. In 2 years, Cal Lu will be home of a major sports complex in 2005. Within a 10 minute drive is the state university, University of California, Channel Islands. Thousand Oaks has several corporate and regional headquarters of several large corporations such as Amgen, Bioscience a Division of Baxter Healthcare Corporation which represents being in the top 5 of international Biotech firms.
General Dynamics and the Rockwell Science center are all leaders in high technology. Jafra Cosmetics is a local international cosmetic company. Wellpoint Health Networks is on of the largest publicly- traded managed care companies, General Motors, and Verizons Regional offices.
