Which is a premier destination city northwest of Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks rests in a mountainous plateau 900´ above sea level as seen coming up the Conejo grade from Camarillo. The area enjoys a westerly flow of air off the ocean, keeping it cool and the air fresh. It is nestled in the hilly area called the ConejoValley, which in Spanish means RabbitValley.The valley borders approximately 500,000 acres of State Park to the south. The hills bordering the city of Moorpark, Wood Ranch, Simi Valley, San Fernando Valley Etc. The valley has designated approximately 14,000 square acres or one third of the City as designated open space which is managed by the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency to insure quality of life for years to come.The city also has numerous parks with over 75 miles of trails within the city. Thousand Oaks is also proud to run the Thousand Oaks City Library which is one of the largest per capita for a city of its size. The Library has also won architectural awards.

Things to do in Thousand Oaks
Thousand Oaks is a community close to the coast which offers cool weather in the summer and moderate weather in the winter months.The city manages Los Robles Golf Course and within the city is also Sunset Hills Golf and Tennis country Club. Additionally, there are about seven golf courses within the Conejo
Valley. You can visit the Stage Coach Museum and Park which is great for kids, or hike one of the many popular trails in the Santa Monica Mountains National Park. Mountain bikers will also enjoy the variety of open space trails. Within a short 15 minute drive, you can enjoy the Pacific Ocean from surfing to swimming. You can go Scuba Diving and Kayaking or take a boat within 10 mile ride to the eight offshore islands within the Channel Islands National park. Thousand Oaks also offers many opportunities for the equestrian, whether that be living in horse zoned property, taking horseback riding lessons at place at Two Winds Ranch or just riding the many horse trails.
A great way to spend the day is to just drive up the Coast and stop on Main Street in Ventura and look at shops there are countless antique shops, boutiques and places to eat. Drive further up the coast and you can enjoy the city of Summerland and Santa Barbara in only a 45 minute drive. These cities are -also known as the number two tourist destinations in Southern California. Santa Barbara is a beautiful shoreline community with pristine waters. It is a great place to enjoy the ocean at its best from renting wave runners to small boats or just taking a walk on the beach collecting shells.You can visit the Sterns Wharf Pier and the many shops on the popular State Street.The Santa Barbara Mission is a must see for kids as is the Natural Museum of History.Botanic lovers should make an appointment to see the famous Lotus Land Botanical Gardens as well... Interested in Surfing try Malibu Beach just 30 Minutes to to the South.
But for those of you who love snow, we have that too! Mt.Pinos, elevation 8300, is within a 2 hour drive. It is a State Park open all winter for sledding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. There is generally snow at Mt.Pianos from Nov to April. If it´s skiing you want, Big Bear Mountain is also a 2 hour drive with several Ski Resorts in that area!
Culturally, Thousand Oaks offers a variety of options.
